This guide provides an overview of CSM library databases and other resources for finding information.

Nexis Uni

Basic & Advanced Search

All search options allow you to search using keywords, article title, and newspaper/publication title.

Basic Search

Basic search bar for Nexis Uni. Includes drop down options for date range and content types.

Basic search provides one search box along with options for narrowing by date ranges (previous 5 years, 2 years, year, 6 month, etc.) and content types (news, companies, legal, or people).

Guided Search

Guided search option in Nexis Uni. Includes "what are you interested in?" with content type options, a search box, and a drop down for date range.

The guided search is on the same page, below the basic search bar. Guided search allows you to select the content type, search with keywords or subjects, and choose a shorter date range.

Advanced Search

Advanced search in Nexis Uni. Includes multiple search boxes, drop down for date range, and option to enter sources.

Advanced search provides more flexibility and options to include specific information.

  • All - searches all content types
  • News - searches only news sources
  • Company and Financial - options to search directories, analyst reports, company profiles, mergers and acquisitions, and SEC filings
  • Legal - options to search administrative codes and regulations, administrative material, briefs, pleadings, motions, cases, law reviews and journals, legal news, and statutes and legislation.

Limits

Narrow By

In addition to narrowing by content type (such as news, law reviews and journals, cases, etc.), the search results page includes options for narrowing your search by:

  • Publication Type
  • Subject
  • Industry
  • Geography by Document
  • Sources
  • ...and others
Sort By
  • Relevance
  • Document Title (A-Z or Z-A)
  • Date (newest-oldest or oldest-newest)
Actions

Next to the "Results for:[your search]" at the top of the page, the Actions menu gives you additional tools, including a "link to this page" option that will bring you back to your search results.

Database Records & Tools

Database records include the full text of the source and additional information such as the publication or companies mentioned, along with multiple tools to download, print, and cite.

Nexis Uni also allows you to search within the document and to view where each of the search terms you used appear in the document.
