To access archival materials stewarded by the Southern Maryland Studies Center, all visitors will be required to read our Materials Handling Guidelines and to complete the Patron Registration Form. By completing the Patron Registration Form, you are agreeing to abide by our Material Handling Guidelines to ensure the ongoing preservation of our materials for future generations of researchers. To expedite your research process, please complete the Patron Registration Form ahead of your visit.
The Southern Maryland Studies Center is open each week for walk-in visitors. Please stop by and visit to use our collection materials, ask questions, plan your research, and more. Our open hours each week are:
Monday: 10:00am - 1:00pm
Tuesday: 10:00am - 1:00pm
Wednesday: 10:00am - 1:00pm
Thursday: 10:00am - 1:00pm
Appointments may be outside of the Southern Maryland Studies Center's open hours and are supported by the College of Southern Maryland Library, which is open Monday through Thursday, 9:00am - 6:00pm and Friday, 9:30am - 12:30pm.
To schedule an appointment, please call (301) 934-7110 or email smsc@csmd.edu with the proposed date and time of your visit (at least one week in advance), as well as specific information about the materials you are interested in reviewing during your visit. Whenever possible, please provide the collection and/or accession number to help us help you!
All personal belongings, likes bags and coats, must be placed underneath of your study table and out of the way.

Laptops, cameras, and phones
Pencils and erasers
Books, papers, and other research materials
Sweaters or shawls
Items that you can not bring with you to the Southern Maryland Studies Center's Reading Room:
Pens, highlighters, markers, or any permanent ink items
Food and drink (including water or candy)
Personal scanners
Post-It notes
Other items that may touch or cause damage to materials
