Donate Seeds

The Seed Box would not be possible without donations from our community! If you are interested in donating seeds from your personal garden, please ensure that they meet the following criteria:

  1. Be clean, dry, and separated from chaff (plant debris) as much as possible.
  2. Stored in a closed container such as a sealed brown paper bag, envelope, pill bottle, or any other container.
  3. Clearly labelled with the name of the plant (Latin and Common name for native plants, if possible), location of harvest, and year of harvest.

If your container is too small to include the required information, you can download and print out our Seed Donation Form, or fill out the form in the Library.

We are grateful for the seed donations from the following organizations:

  • Wild Ones Chesapeake Bay
  • Southern States Farming Cooperative Inc.
  • University of Maryland-Extension Charles County Master Gardeners

Volunteer with us!

If you are a College of Southern Maryland student, staff, or faculty member, we would love your help with the behind-the-scenes tasks that make the Seed Box operational!

This includes:

  • Creating seed envelopes by cutting and repurposing old mailing envelopes.
  • Packaging seeds and adding labels to seed envelopes.
  • Restock and take inventory during the break between seasons. (May, August, November, February)
  • Helping out at workshops and events, whether with set-up, take-down, or as a facilitator.

You can come in at any time to express your interest in helping with these tasks. Alternatively, please email Maddie at mjkaba@csmd.edu to coordinate a time to volunteer.

Events

Occasionally, we will host workshops and make appearances at events on and off campus. Workshops are sometimes limited to CSM Staff, Faculty, and Students only, but we will always note who can participate when advertising!

Please see the "Upcoming Events" tab for more information.
